India's first nuclear-submarine INS Arihant Launched


India reached a milestone the India's first indigenous nuclear-powered submarine INS Arihant' (destroyer of enemy) for sea launched by PM Manmohan Singh and his wife Gursharan Kaur on July 27 at Visakapatnam.
INS Arihant has been built under the advanced technology vessels (ATV) programme at a cost of $2.9 billion at the naval dockyard in Visakhapatnam.

Social networking sites are irritating- Bill Gates

BiLL Gates said that social networking sites are "irritating" him, he is flooded by "friend requests" everyday on Facebook. He gets 10,000 friend requests everyday. Gates said these words when he came to India to receive Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development award on behalf of his Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, being recognized for "pioneering and exemplary philanthropic work around the world and in India in health".

India likly to implement Mobile number portability

The telecom secretary Siddhartha Behura said ,the Government may allow mobile number portability(MNP) by the end of 2009. Mobile number portability (MNP) enables mobile telephone users to retain their mobile telephone numbers when changing from one mobile network operator to another.India is likely to implement mobile number portability by the end of the year.

Govt to give Soil Health Cards to farmers

Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar told that Government will issue Soil Health Cards to all farmers in the country detailing the deficiencies in the soil and the amount of fertilizers needed. Soil Health Cards would give farmers information about the quality of the soil(deficiencies in the soil) and what is the normal quantity of fertilizer to be used for a particular crop.

500 new soil testing laboratories and 250 new mobile soil testing laboratories had been sanctioned in the Budget for 2008-09.Studies have found that over-doze and injudicious use of conventional chemical fertilizers and pesticides affect soil fertility, vegetation, human and animal health, he said.
