It seems people of India are competing pretty hard with the Chinese. In the census released for the decade 2001-2011, population of India grew at a whooping 181 million a decade, making the total population to 1.2 billion which is 17.5% of the total population. The Census covered all 35 states and Union Territories.
The 15th census(2011) which is accountable from 1872, was released by Registrar General of India and Census Commissioner of India Mr. C. Chandramauli. He said that post-enumeration summary will be started soon and the final data is expected to be available next year.
Snippets of 2011 census:
1. 8,000 metric tonnes of paper and 10,500 metric tonnes of material was moved.
2. Uttar Pradesh is the most populous state with 199 million people.
3. Lakshadweep the least populated at 64,429
4. The combined population of Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra is bigger than that of the U.S.
5. Child sex ratio in 2011 is 914 female against 1,000 male which is the lowest, since Independence.
6. Literates constitute 74 per cent which grew from 64.83 per cent in 2001.
7. India's share of 17.5% of the total population is second to China's 19.4%.
8. Overall sex ratio at the national level has increased by seven points since the 2001 Census to reach 940 females per 1000 male at Census 2011.
9. The density of population in 2011 is 382 persons in per sq km in comparison to 325 in 2001.
Interesting fact is that, Population has added up to a large extent but the rate at which it is growing is less compared to previous census reports.
Well done India..

Union law minister, M Veerappa Moily, on Tuesday said the Centre would ban the book, Great Soul: Mahatma Gandhi And His Struggle With India, calling its contents “baseless, sensational and heresy and denigrating a national leader”.The book has been banned in his home state of Gujarat Wednesday. A resolution to ban the book, "Great Soul", was moved in the state assembly by Chief Minister Narendra Modi and passed unanimously.
He was speaking to media persons after addressing a party meeting at Congress Bhavan here. "The Union government will plan out how to prohibit the book," he said. The book by Joseph Lelyveld, claims that Mahatma Gandhi, a renowned advocate of celibacy, truth and non-violence, was also a bisexual and a racist. It claims Gandhi had an affair with German-Jewish architect and bodybuilder, Hermann Kallenbach, for whom he supposedly left his wife Kasturba in 1908.
The book also claims the Mahatma had a racist attitude towards Africans.

Nothing can be bigger than an India-Pakistan knock out game in a World Cup. So, it's not surprising that ad rates for the live broadcast of the game has broken all records.
Sources tell NDTV that spot rates for ten seconds of advertisement have risen six times to Rs. 18 lakh. The rates for league matches were sold at Rs. 3.5-4 lakh per ten seconds. The previous record for spot rates was Rs. 14-15 lakh (per ten seconds) during the IPL final in 2009.
So far, all matches featuring team India have attracted higher rates. Spot rates for the India-Australia quarterfinal match was Rs. 10-12 lakh (per ten second) while that for India-England match was Rs. 7 lakh (per ten second).
The spot ad rates for the final match are expected to be sold at a whopping Rs. 24 lakhs (per ten second).
The mother of all matches has not only affected ad rates, but ticket prices have soared in the black market too. A Rs. 250 ticket fetched Rs. 2,000 while Rs. 500 tickets went for Rs. 4,000. A Rs. 1,000 ticket sold for as high as Rs. 6,500-7,000.

Simple changes to promote healthy habits at work place can help employees from gaining weight, says study.
However, these types of environmental interventions aren't likely to lead to weight loss- even when combined with an individual weight-management program, according to the study by researchers at University of Georgia and Emory University.
The researchers report on the impact of environmental interventions at several Dow Chemical Company worksites. They found that simple, low-cost interventions-for example, encouraging workers to take the stairs and making healthy options available in vending machines-helped to avoid employee weight gain.
They study also evaluated the effects of a voluntary, low-intensity individual weight-management program. The program was popular, with about 60 percent of eligible workers participating.
"However, employees who participated in the individually focused intervention were no more successful at losing weight than those who were only exposed to the environmental interventions," said researchers.
"Low-cost environmental interventions provide an opportunity for worksites to encourage weight maintenance and control in the general employee population," concluded researchers conclude.
The study has been published in the March Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

"His appetite is so good that for a meal he can eat 3 big bowls of rice, even larger than I and his mother," said Hao's father Lu Yuncheng.
The parents have tried their best to keep a strict vigil on the child’s diet, yet if they begin to restrict his food, the child begins to cry non-stop.

The United Kingdom-based Global Risks Atlas 2011 on Friday described India as the 16th riskiest country to invest in for the security hazards it poses and rather embarrassingly clubs it with Niger, Bangladesh and Mali. The Atlas is published by Maplecroft, a consultancy founded by Alyson Warhurst , chair of strategy and international development at Warwick Business School .
Global Risk Atlas 2011
 |
The evaluation is structured on seven key global risks including macroeconomic risk and threats around security, governance, resource security, climate change, social resilience and illicit economies.
Maplecroft assessed India faces simultaneous threats of terrorist attacks from Islamists and Maoists. It also points at India's lack of social resilience despite a robust economic growth and cites its poor human rights record. It says large sections of the population lack access to basic services such as education, healthcare and sanitation, and highlights its less productive workforce, greater susceptibility to pandemics and susceptible to social unrest.
The four countries flagged red as extreme risks are Somalia, Sudan, Afghanistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo; in other words, un-investible. Pakistan is not far behind at 7th.
In an exacting analysis, even developed markets like the US and Western Europe, including the UK, are branded medium risk. Only 35 out of the 175 countries covered in the groups Global Risks Atlas 2011, ranked as low risk.
Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway are listed as among the least risky countries to invest; and Norway claimed the overall crown as the safest place.

Mohammad Kaif reportedly tied the knot in Noida yesterday. According to sources, the cricketer's bride is a journalist.
After the Noida wedding, a reception is said to have been planned for March 27 in Delhi. Apparently, the wedding was kept strictly hush hush with only close family and friends in attendance. A reception in Allahabad, Kaif's hometown, will be held once the IPL gets over, sources are saying. Neither the cricketer nor his family were available for comment.
The 30 year old batsmen last played to India on November 29, 2006, against south Africa, in which India lost the match by 80 runs. Later he played in IPL for Rajastan Royals where he was captain for first 2 matches and then lost his place in IPL 3. He was one of the 30 unsold players in IPL 4 Auctions. But the luck favours him in the form of Vijaya Malya, who brought him for Royal Challengers for $1,30,000.
Kaif was well known for his fielding. He is one of the best fielders in the world. However, the match which every Indian fan remembers is the match against England. His controlled 87 runs(not out) when India chased 326 against England in the 2002 Natwest Trophy final is the best match to Mohammad Kaif.

It was BJP's turn yet again to be hit by Wikileaks cables with a US diplomat reporting that its senior leader Arun Jaitley had remarked to him that Hindu nationalism is an "opportunistic issue" for his party.
"Pressed on the question of Hindutva, Jaitley argued that Hindu nationalism 'will always be a talking point' for the BJP. However, he characterized this as an opportunistic issue," a cable by Robert Blake, the Charge at the US Embassy, to his government, had said after a meeting with Jaitley on May 6, 2005.
Jaitley, however, maintained that he had not used the word " opportunistic" while Congress attacked him saying those living in glass houses should not throw stones at others.
The cable by Blake said, "in India's northeast, for instance, Hindutva plays well because of public anxiety about illegal migration of Muslims from Bangladesh.
"With the recent improvement of Indo-Pak relations, he (Jaitley) added, Hindu nationalism is now less resonant in New Delhi, but that could change with another cross-border terrorist attack, for instance on the Indian Parliament," the cable, accessed by The Hindu, said.
Jaitley, the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, whom the cable described as "one of several aspirants to direct the next generation of BJP leadership", said in a statement that the word opportunistic in reference to Hindutva could be the "diplomat's own usage".
He said the cable by the diplomat in 2005 makes a reference to his conversation with him. "The cable reflects my views on cross-border terrorism, illegal infiltration from Bangladesh and the unfair denial of US Visa to the Gujarat Chief Minister (Narendra Modi).
"However, the use of the word "opportunistic" in reference to nationalism or Hindu nationalism is neither my view nor my language. It could be the diplomat's own usage," he said.
Losing no opportunity to corner BJP which is attacking the UPA over Wikileaks, Congress told the BJP that those who live in glass houses should not throw stones at others.
"Chickens are coming to roost, what goes out wrongly hits back like a boomerang. People living in glass houses are taught in this manner that they were to throw stones at others," Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said.
Jaitley, also told Blake that the controversy involving denial of visa to Chief Minister Narendra Modi continues to fester among the party rank and file, who see the action as a "personal attack" on a leader of the party that began the transformation of US-India relations.

DMK Supremo Karunanidhi kickstarted his election campaign on Wednesday in the run up to polls in Tamil Nadu next month. As usual he's promising freebies and this time he's targetting young students.
Combating the stain of corruption with a promise of populism 87-year-old M karunanidhi drove past the DMK cadre lined up to see him embark on yet another political journey.
The road ahead is not easy. The corruption taint has had maximum impact in the DMK’s urban strongholds. One of the reasons crtitics say the DMK chief gave up urban Chennai where he has contested since 1967, and drove down to his rural hometown Thiruvarur.
The veteran has just one answer to the controversies, allegations, and anti-incumbency that surrounds him.
"In our manifesto we had promised laptops to students from OBC, SC and ST. Now I announce that all students will be given free laptops,” said Karunanidhi.
In 2006, the DMK rode to power with the promise of free colour TVs and rice at 1 rupee a kilo. His government did deliver the goods but will it work again in 2011.

Extending a helping hand to quake-hit Japan, telecom equipment maker Ericsson has offered to supply satellite phones and solar-powered towers to the Japanese government.
Ravaged by the recent earthquake and tsunami, the Japanese economy has suffered massive losses of people, property, communication lines and even damaged a few nuclear plants.
According to the World Bank , the damages due to the natural calamity could be up to USD 235 billion and the
reconstruction efforts could take five years.
Going by estimates, the Japanese calamity would be one of the costliest disasters in recent times.
The estimated damage, which could account for about 4 per cent of the economy, is much more than USD 100 billion loss incurred after the 1995 Kobe earthquake.
With rising fears of nuclear radiation, many companies, including Indian IT players, have started calling back their employees from Japan.

The International Monetary Fund has claimed that Colonel Muammar Gaddafi has stored 150 tons of gold worth four billion pounds at the Libyan central bank under the dictator's direct control, enough to pay mercenaries for years.
The Daily Express quoted banking experts as saying that that many central banks hold their reserves in London, New York or Switzerland, but Gaddafi has always insisted that Libya's gold remains near his home in Tripoli.
Britain, the US and other European countries have already frozen billions of amounts in Libyan assets after sanctions paralysed the central bank, its sovereign wealth fund and the state oil company.
The experts now believe that Gaddafi might have transferred the gold near to the borders with Chad and Niger, where it could be swapped for currency.

The Mumbai crime branch busted a match fixing racket from a hotel in Ahmedabad involving three Dawood men, who sneaked into the hotel where the Australian team was put up to play Zimbabwe in the World Cup game on February 21.
The tip-off from Mumbai police exposed Gujarat police's tall claim that foolproof security has been provided for the quarterfinal match to be played here on March 24. Sources told that the three D-company men stayed with the Aussie team in a five-star hotel in Satellite area and met them in the lobby where the deal was struck for spot fixing. Australia won the match.
An intelligence input on the day Ahmedabad was fixed as a venue for the quarterfinals, had warned that WC could be a terror target. The police had then told that they would be screening all hotel guests. The Australian team arrived here four days before the match, accompanied by an observer from the International Cricket Council's anti-corruption wing. Intercepts showed that the Dawood men made calls to London, Nairobi and Nagpur. The duration of these calls ranged from 39 seconds to 1.20 minutes. The phone taps also revealed details about the spot fixing. The Mumbai police tipped off the ICC about the match being fixed and the possible outcome. Sources in the anti-corruption wing confirmed that the match was fixed.
Soon after the match, it was reported that the ICC had taken note of the slow batting in the first 10 overs by Australian openers Shane Watson and Brad Haddin. The two openers scored just 28 runs in 11 overs and 53 in 15 overs in a match that Australia won comfortably. However, the slow rate of scoring in the first two powerplays was scrutinised by the ICC's anti-corruption and security unit.
The Australian team, however, rubbished media reports that the ICC was investigating the game.

Karnataka state politics is getting nasty and ugly day by day as senior politicians like JD(U) chief HD Kumaraswamy and Chief Minister and BJP leader BS Yeddyurappa have engaged in hit and run tactics.
 |
| Kumaraswamy(left) and Yeddyurappa (Right): File photo |
The controversy regarding land scam in the state reached its peak when Kumaraswamy called Yeddyurappa a "drunkard" and a "stray dog." The unscathed allegations began when Yeddyurappa accused former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and his family in yet another land scam.
The daily DNA quoted Kumaraswamy as stating, "I am not making any baseless allegations against the chief minister, but he is resorting to hit-and-run tactics. Without producing a single document, he is alleging that Gowda and sons have looted the state. He should prove what he has said. Else, he should stop speaking like a drunkard. Yeddyurappa is like a stray dog which only barks but does not bite."
Justifying his stand in accusing Yeddyurappa and sons in multi crore land scams, Kumaraswamy pointed out, "Unlike earlier chief ministers, Yeddyurappa has denotified lands in developed layouts and these lands had even been taken into possession 25-30 years ago."
"No other chief minister in the past had denotified lands whose possession had been taken by various agencies. Most properties denotified are in prime locations and are in the name of companies associated with Yeddyurappa's relatives like Besto Infrastructure Private Ltd, Elyon Developers Private Ltd, Helath Zone Advisors (India) Ltd. Individuals like Kumsi Manjunath, D Doddappa, Akkamahadevi, BG Channappa, Mahabaleshwara, K Shivappa and others are acting as frontmen and frontwomen for these companies," the daily quoted Kumaraswamy.

Google tops in Brand Value and Tata in top 50 , according to the 2011 BrandFinance® Global 500. The BrandFinance® Global 500 is the world’s most comprehensive brand value league table, ranking the most valuable brands across all major markets
- Google is the most valuable brand in the world ($44.3bn), edging Microsoft ($42.8bn) into second place
- Coca-Cola drops out of the top ten for the first time ($25.8bn)
- BP suffered a $3.4bn loss and falls 53 places
- Facebook enters the table in 285th place with a brand value of $3.7bn
- The US continues to dominate the index; American brands constitute 13 of the top 20 and 26 from the top 500
Rise of the machines
Although the top tier of the BrandFinance® Global 500 contains many household names brands that have existed for decades – IBM, Bank of America, HSBC – the world’s increasing dependence on the internet is reflected by Google’s position at no.1.
Five of the top ten largest growers are technology-related companies, reinforcing the commercial importance of embracing technological innovation to give a seamless, value-enhancing brand experience for customers and consumers. ‘Don’t be evil’
Google’s dominance of the search engine sector means it tops the 2011 table. The company has repeatedly undertaken ventures that are comparatively un-commercial but have a positive impact on its brand rating (AAA+) which is the highest in the table. These actions include developing services help rescue efforts following the natural disasters in New Zealand and Japan and its growing not-for- profit arm.
Apple’s success continues as it moves up twelve places, supported by innovative design, a very loyal consumer base and well-executed marketing activities.
However, Coca Cola has dropped out of the top ten for the first time. This is underpinned by the consumer trend in developed markets to move towards healthier, non-carbonated drinks.
Walmart was one of the few brands to actually increase its brand value during the banking crisis due to its well defined, value-oriented proposition. Its value has dropped slightly but, due to its overall size, its marginal loss (12%) means it also becomes one of the largest losers for 2011.
BP suffered a torrid time in 2010 although, according to a Brand Finance study in August 2010, the brand value had dropped as low as $4.7bn. It has now rebounded to $8.8bn but is facing further problems relating to its partnership with Rosneft.
Nokia suffered the largest fall in brand value – $9.9bn. The company has struggled in the smartphone market, a victim of Apple’s success, although the partnership with Microsoft may help to revive their fortunes.
Facebook enters the BrandFinance® Global 500 for the first time with a brand value of $3.7bn. Although monetisation of the world’s largest social networking site remains contentious and its product diversification strategy remains relatively opaque, there is little doubt concerning the brand’s huge popularity, its effectiveness in entering new markets and stratospheric levels of consumer usage.
The India story looks to be heading north, with Indian brands's contribution to the global league table increasing by as much as 26% over last year. It is also the first time that as many as nine Indian companies are featured on the list, adding $46.6 billion to the global intangible value.
Reliance (RIL) 83 positions (133) with a brand value of $6.99 billion.
Indian Oil, Bharti Airtel, and Wipro Technologies, at ranks 232, 282 and 474, respectively.
Only Tata, State Bank of India and Infosys have bettered their rankings over those of last year to feature at positions 50, 171, and 378, respectively.
On the other hand, Reliance, Bharat Petroleum and ICICI Bank have seen a fall in rankings and are featured at positions 133, 347, and 442, respectively.

As part of its golden jubilee celebrations the oldest Indian Institute of Management in the country, IIM-Calcutta (IIM-C) is planning a slew of new courses, including those that would promote a greater inclusion of women.
"We are working towards ensuring increasing the number of women at IIM-C by coming up with courses parallel to the flagship post graduate diploma in business management," said an IIM-C professor on condition of anonymity.
For most IIMs, the issue of male female ratio has been contentious for a while now, in light of the average ratio of 80-20 in favour of men that characterizes most classes. With the increasing pool of female candidates, IIM-C is looking at ways of encouraging admission as well.
"With growing complications in international economic management, there is growing relevance for a deeper understanding of issues of financial and debt instruments. We are looking at introduction of relevant courses tailor made for working executives", said Saugata Roy, dean, IIM-C.
IIM-C will also introduce executive programmes for about 1,000 students which would be primarily self funded courses.
"In most cases, it is tough to come across good amounts of government funding. These courses will provide the dual purpose of funding along with training more professional," the professor explained.

Not only Naukri or Monster, but also social networking sites like facebook, twitter and linkedin will bring you offers. Yes, its true. Check how..
An MBA graduate from a reputed institute, created a business networking profile on LinkedIn and wrote about the details of the college projects, internship and achievements. Within a few days, that person got a call from a Multi National company to come for an interview. Soon, the candidate had two offer letters in hand.
Social media and career networking portals have become imperative for jobseekers. Whether it’s through blogs, Twitter, LinkedIn, or Facebook, people are seeking potential employers through alternative online sources. Intelligent employees are maintaining updated profiles on career networking sites like Toostep, ApnaCircle and LinkedIn. Now a days recruiters are using social media to hire employees. Now, employees are not only using LinkedIn profile for finding new jobs but also to initiate business meetings with different people who have common interest.
In India 80-million members are using social networking sites. Sites like Facebook have a little over 15 million members from India and LinkedIn claims to have more than nine million professionals from India networking on its site. Twitter has 145 million registered users globally. It is only natural for prospective employers and recruiting agencies to scan these sites to gather detailed profiles while hiring college graduates. For the employees, web 2.0 tools like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn are the newest way to extend the social circle and tap into jobs that aren’t usually advertised.
Hari V Krishnan, country manager, LinkedIn India, says, “If talent was a currency, LinkedIn is the exchange where we connect talent with opportunity at massive scale.” He makes a point when he adds, “Most professionals who are offered jobs on LinkedIn are not looking for jobs, they are passive candidates.”
Facebook and twitter increases relationships among friends and it became common platform to showcase their talent. Because of this friends are referring their college mates or ex-colleagues through facebook and twitter. Now, a days, its a practise to post jobs in facebook or twitter account rather than in Naukri or Monster.
Twitter and Facebook, while still serving as communication tools between friends, increasingly function as public noticeboards, where users can share job-related information through its pages, groups and applications, while search engines like TwitterJobSearch.com have turned the 140-characters-a-post site into a promising job hunting ground.
Twitter very effective in hiring entry to mid-level professionals, while LinkedIn comes handy while hiring senior management people.Microblogging, social networking websites can be a powerful way for small companies and recruiters to expand their list of potential job candidates. Twitter is not the end-all, be-all, but it is an affordable and inexpensive way for a small business trying to make an impact to reach a larger audience, share their job offerings and build their brand.

Japan may need five years to rebuild from the catastrophic earthquake and tsunami that has caused up to $235 billion of damage, the World Bank said on Monday.
As per the World Bank report the March 11 disaster which killed more than 8,600 people and left more than 12,800 missing, and ravaged northeastern Japan will likely shave up to 0.5 percentage point from the country’s economic growth this year. The impact will be concentrated in the first half of the year.
Reconstruction efforts, which caused damage to housing and infrastructur will take nearly five years
As per the world bank the estimated damage in Japan is in between $123 billion and $235 billion, and cost to private insurers between $14 billion and $33 billion. The Japan Government will spend $12 billion on reconstruction in the current national budget and “much more” in the next one.
Traces of radiation first detected in spinach and milk from farms near the nuclear plant are turning up farther away in tap water, rain and even dust. In all cases, the government said the radiation levels were too small to pose an immediate risk to health.
As per the world bank's report, a short-term drop in Japan’s consumer demand and manufacturing production will also hurt trade with regional neighbours. South Korean electronics companies have seen the price of some memory chips from Japan rise 20 percent because of disrupted production, while Thai car exporters may run out of Japanese auto parts next month, it said.

According to a article published by Larry Page, co-founder of Google, in Wired Magazine, hen Google was looking for an experienced CEO to provide "adult supervision" to the company in 2000, their first preference was Steve Jobs.
Google also considered other big names like Intel’s Andy Grove, Intuit’s Scott Cook, Amazon .com’s Jeff Bezos, and others.
Google's venture capitalist John Doerr arranged a meeting with top CEO's including Steve Jobs and others with Google’s young co-founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin. The purpose of this meeting was an attempt to get the new CEO. Finally, Doerr introduced Eric Schmidt to Google founders and in 2001 Schmidt appointed as the new CEO.
Google under Schmidt grew into the third-largest technology company in the world, Page and Brin came to genuinely appreciate their CEO. Page would later describe hiring Schmidt as brilliant.

Sania Mirza and her Russian partner Elena Vesnina have won the women's doubles title at the 2011 BNP Paribas Tennis Open in Indian Wells, defeating eighth-seeded Americans Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Meghann Shaughnessy 6-0, 7-5.
Sania and Vesnina took the first set Saturday in just 24 minutes before the Americans jumped to a quick 3-0 lead in the second. Mattek-Sands and Shaughnessy broke for a second time to go 5-1 up, but the Indian-Russian duo roared back to reel off six games to take the title without dropping a set in the entire tournament.
Sania and Vesnina have become the fourth straight unseeded pair to win the title here. Vesnina and Russian Dinara Safina won here unseeded in 2008.
The other two unseeded pairs to win were Victoria Azarenka and Vera Zvonareva in 2009 and Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik last year.
Sania has now won 10 doubles titles and Vesnina four. They were teaming up for just the third time in tour-level competition, reaching the quarter-finals at Dubai and Doha before claiming their first title together here.

A day after WikiLeaks disclosure indicated that the Congress had paid lawmakers to survive a vote of confidence in Parliament in 2008, another Wikileaks exposure reveals Washington's interference in Indian political decisions.
US secretary of state Hillary Clinton is said to have questioned Pranab Mukherjee's appointment as finance minister and also asked its embassy in Delhi why Mukherjee was preferred to Montek Singh Ahluwalia.
In a cable to the US Embassy in Delhi in September 2009, Clinton asked, "To which business groups is Mukherjee beholden?'; Why was (he) chosen over Montek?"
It further adds: "To which industrial or business groups is Pranab Mukherjee beholden? Whom will he seek to help through his policies? What are Mukherjee's priorities in the upcoming budget... ?"
These questions appear to indicate that the White House was expecting either P Chidambaram to return as finance minister or Montek Singh Ahluwalia to be elevated to that post.
The September 14, 2009 cable asks: "What are Mukherjee's primary economic concerns and his views on Prime Minister Singh's economic reform agenda? How quickly does he plan to pursue these reforms? What is his ability to enact reforms?"
Clinton was interested in knowing about how much importance does Mukherjee attach to the US-India bilateral economic relationship and where he saw the relationship heading.

An aide of Congress leader Satish Sharma allegedly showed a US Embassy employee "two chests containing cash" and said Rs 50-60 crore is ready for use as "pay-offs" to win the support of some MPs ahead of crucial vote of confidence in UPA government over the Indo-US nuke deal, claimed a set of US diplomatic cables released by Wikileaks.
Noting that the Congress party machine was working "overtime" behind the scenes in the run-up to the confidence vote on July 22, 2008, the cables also claimed the party had allegedly paid Rs 10 crores to each of their "four RLD MPs."
RLD chief Ajit Singh denied the allegations of pay-offs and said the party voted against the Manmohan Singh government since it was against the civil nuclear deal.
The cable claimed that Nachiketa Kapur, Sharma's political aide, mentioned to an Embassy staff member in an aside on July 16, 2008 that Ajit Singh's RLD had been paid Rs. 10 crore for each of their "four MPs" to support the government.
Kapur reportedly mentioned that money was not an issue at all, but the crucial thing was to ensure that those who took the money would vote for the government, according to the cable sent from the US Embassy to the US State department dated July 17, 2008.
Kapur showed the Embassy employee "two chests containing cash" and said that "around Rs. 50-60 crore (about $25 million) was lying around the house for "use as pay-offs", the cable claimed.

HCL Technologies said it will send a senior level delegation to quake-hit Japan to support its employees, and the Indian software services firm will also give employees an option to work from alternate locations.
HCL's move follows Tata Consultancy Services' (TCS), announcement earlier this week that it was prepared to relocate its Indian staff in Japan. Infosys Technologies also said some of its expatriate staff there had returned.
"There are contingency plans of quick evacuation of all employees and their families if the situation arises," HCL said in a statement late on Wednesday.
Several embassies advised staff and citizens to leave affected areas, tourists to cut short vacations and multinational companies either urged staff to leave or said they were considering plans to move outside Tokyo where low levels of radiation have been detected.
HCL has given its employees options to work from home, to work from alternate locations like Osaka, China, Singapore or India on Japan timings, or to go on leave in consultation with their managers.
Over 1000 HCL engineers work on Japanese projects, according to its website.
The company is also working with the Japanese Consulate and related agencies such as Japanese Culture Centre to decide on options to support the relief measures, it said.

Google has bought Irish company Green Parrot Pictures in a bid to improve the quality of video uploaded to YouTube.
The Dublin-based firm specialises in image processing to improve, for example, sharpness and camera shake.
Its technology has already been used by several big Hollywood film studios on movies such as X-Men and Spiderman.
Google said that Green Parrot's technology would enhance the look of videos posted on its site while using bandwidth more efficiently.
A statement, posted on Green Parrot Pictures' website said: "We're excited to join Google, where we will apply our expertise to improve the online video experience for hundreds of millions of users worldwide on may different products, platforms and services."
Green Parrot Pictures was founded six years ago by Dr Anil Kokaram, an associate professor with the school of engineering at Trinity College, Dublin.
Google, which owns YouTube plans to use Green Parrot's technology to perform on-the-fly background processing on user videos.
Writing on the official YouTube blog, Google's director of video technology, Jeremy Doig said: "What if there was a technology that could improve the quality of such videos -- sharpening the image, reducing visual noise and rendering a higher-quality, steadier video -- all while your video is simply being uploaded to the site?
"You can imagine how excited we were when we discovered a small, ambitious company based in Ireland that can do exactly this."

Billionaire investor Warren Buffett is finally setting up shop in India -- a country where the billionaire investor is yet to make substantial investments. Berkshire India, a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway , has received approval from India's insurance regulator to sell auto insurance products as a corporate agent of Bajaj Allianz General Insurance. And that's not all. Berkshire also has plans to enter the Indian reinsurance market.

The $214-billion company is in talks with a domestic general insurance company for a 26% stake. Indian rules allow only a 26% foreign direct investment (FDI) in the country's insurance sector, with a domestic company holding the majority 74% stake. In its budget proposals in February, the Indian government said it plans to increase the FDI ceiling in insurance to 49% from 26%. Buffett, eager to draw first blood as the industry opens up, clearly wants to have the first mover advantage. The reason is simple: At present, there is only one reinsurer in the domestic segment -- the government-owned General Insurance Corporation.
Previously, London-based Prudential plc has a tie-up with ICICI Bank , AIG is in a joint-venture with conglomerate Tata, ING with Vyasa, and Aviva with Dabur.
However, Buffett might be eyeing the retail market -- the industry which is slated to grow from $392.6 billion in 2011 to $674.4 billion by 2014.

Hunter further said that the recent corruption cases have not dent the confidence of investors in India, adding that "Corruption is certainly not a specialty in which India will win the gold medal."
India is not as corrupt as China and Russia, according to the global credit rating agency Fitch.
The country, however, suffers from excessive regulation and tax laws, which is concern for foreign investors, Fitch Group Managing Director for Corporate Rating Richard Hunter told PTI in an interview.
"We will certainly rank India well below Russia and China when it comes to concerns about corruption. Really big concern about India is regulation and tax treatment," he said.
These comments come at a time when the nation is facing a plethora of corruption cases relating to allocation of 2G spectrum, conduct of Commonwealth Games, allotment of flats in Adarsh Housing Society and Devas-Antrix deal.
However, he said, domestic and foreign investors are concerned about the burdensome regulatory regime in India.
"Corruption is something that does deter investors much more in China. There is respect for Indian legal system," he said.
Hunter said the rating outlook for most Indian companies is stable for the current year.
